THE UPTOWN MARBLE THEATER
The Uptown Theater opened as a movie house in 1942. It continued as such through a couple of name changes until June 2003 when it became no longer feasible for a mom-and-pop organization to make it in the movie industry and the Marble Theater closed its doors. But not for long. Russell Buster had a vision for the building he bought two years ago. Paying homage to the previous incarnations, the Uptown Marble Theater opened as a live entertainment venue in October 2004.
According to Linda Callaway, General Manager, "We started out saying we would book anything that needed 280 seats and a stage, but we refined that a bit to include legal and not messy. So, you might hear any genre of music, see a comedian, experience a one person drama, or clap for your favorite beauty contestant at the Uptown Marble. We´ve even been approached about hosting a wedding and reception here."
There´s not a bad seat in the house and they are very comfortable. In front of the stage, there is a multi-use area that can accommodate tables and chairs, folding chairs or no chairs for dancing. Depending on the set-up, the Theater can seat between 250 and 280. The furthest seat is 20 rows back and the balcony seats 42. There is also an area that will accommodate three wheelchairs and three seats.
For the artists´ comfort, there is a lounge area behind the stage, complete with a full bath and separate dressing room. The stage is directly accessible from this area. Beer, wine and soft drinks are available at the shows. There will be shows for the teens at which no alcohol will be served. The Uptown Marble is a non-smoking establishment.
The sound system was designed to highlight the natural characteristics of the intimate setting. It includes a 32-channel Yamaha mixer, Mackie, Yamaha and TSS speakers, and everything necessary to make a full band, small ensemble, dramatic performance or lecturer sound just right. The stage is 16´ x 16´ with full coverage lights and sound monitoring. The goal of the Uptown Marble Theater is for the performers to have as great an experience on stage as the audience will have out front.
Audio and video recording and postproduction services are available.
